Dry vs Dehydrated Skin and How To Tell The Difference

by Lauren Ardagh on Jun 22, 2022
It can be really stressful trying to work out what your skin type is and what products to use. Working out whether you have dry or dehydrated skin can be tricky at times and sometimes you could have both. Don't worry we've got you, here are some ways to work out what your skin type is and how to get the glow and hydration back. There is nothing worse than being unhappy with how your complexion looks.
What is dry skin?
You can tell when skin is dry when it's flakey and you have dry patches. This typically means that you are lacking oil.
What is Dehydrated Skin?
It's when your skin is lacking water. You can test this by pinching your cheek and if it wrinkles instead of holsing its shape your skin needs some hydration.
Having dehydrated skin can really have a negative impact on your complexion. It's really key to understand what's happening with your skin and how to take care of it so you have happy healthy skin.
How to treat dryness and dehydrated skin:
1. Moisturise, moisturise and then moisturise a little bit more. Ceramides are key but also ingredients like hyaluronic acid, CBD Leaf Extract, Glycerin and Coconut Oil are key to nourishing your complexion.
2. Invest in a humidifier especially in winter as this will make sure the moisture isn't sucked out of your skin.
3. Exfoliate at least once a week to get rid of all the dead skin. You need to get rid of the build up so your products can properly absorb the skin. If you have sensitive skin go for a product with Glycolic Acid, if your skin is oily then try one with a Salicylic Acid,
4. Add a serum into your regime and this is where you get ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid in.
5. Applying a rich balm before going to sleep will definitely plump and hydrate your skin leaving it feeling really nourished.Vaseline is great for sealing the moisture into your skin.
6. Pay attention to the seasons: the cold air will make skin super dry and too long hot showers can dehydrate. Make sure you are getting the skincare you need to really nourish your skin.
7. Sadly dry skin is a skin condition you will most likely have most of your life, whereas dehydrated skin is fixable. Constant hydration will keep both at bay whether you have dry or dehydrated skin. When our skin is hydrated the skin cells swell, which minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
For super dry skin try The Hydration Booster and The Skin Soother and for dehydrated skin try The Glo Getter and The Brightening Bomb.
